Week 13 Television Coverage, Patriots at Miami Dolphins

Even though it is not CBS' prime game, there is still extensive coverage of the Pats game next week - despite Miami having tailed off, losing three of their last four games. 110 CBS affiliates are currently scheduled to broadcast the game, which should bring a smile to out of town Pats fans (and a frown to the face of out of town Pats bar owners).

Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf will be the announcers for this week's game.

Rather than list all the locations that will broadcast this game, I'll just list the ones that are not doing so. Obviously things may change between now and Sunday - each individual station can change to another game if they so desire - but this is how the games are scheduled to be broadcast as of right now.

Texans at Titans:
Huntsville, Alabama; Louisiana; Tennessee; Texas

Colts at Lions:
San Francisco; Iowa; Illinois; Indiana; Kentucky; Michigan; Minnesota; Missouri; North Dakota; Ohio; South Dakota; Wisconsin

Jaguars at Bills:
Greensboro, NC; some of Florida (Gainesville, Orlando, Jacksonville and Tallahassee); southern Georgia (Albany and Savannah); Erie, PA; and upstate New York (Binghamton, Buffalo, Elmira, Rochester, Syracuse and Watertown)

Des Moines is still undecided as of right now, though I would assume they would go with the Lions game.

Chicago, Green Bay, Kansas City, New York City and St. Louis do not get the Pats game or any early CBS game, due to NFL rules that prohibit another game being broadcast while the local team is playing a home game. Don't shoot the messenger ...

For the late game on CBS, most of the country (including all of New England) will get the Steelers at Baltimore, which will be announced by Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. The primary game on Fox (and shown in Boston) will be Minnesota at Green Bay, announced by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman - though most of New England outside of Boston is scheduled to get the Arizona-Jets game instead.

Replays on the NFL Network this week are focused on the NFC South: they'll be playing the Bucs-Falcons game and the Saints-49ers game tonight and tomorrow. That will serve as a warmup to their Thursday Night game, which is New Orleans at Atlanta. While that's not a game between two teams with winning records - the Saints are 5-6 - on paper it is the best game on the Thursday night game schedule since the Bears played the Packers in week two.

This Day In Patriots History

November 27, 1966:
Boston Patriots 20, Miami Dolphins 14 at the Orange Bowl

Jim Nance ran for 133 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown run, as the Pats jumped out to a 20-0 lead and hung on for the win to improve their record to 6-3-2. Babe Parilli threw for 273 yards, Jim Whalen and Gino Cappelletti both had three receptions for 76 yards, and Art Graham had a 22-yard catch for a touchdown.

November 27, 1977:
New England Patriots 14, Philadelphia Eagles 6 at Schaefer Stadium

The Pats defense sacked Ron Jaworski eight times and picked him off twice, to lead the Pats to victory on a cold, windy day in Foxboro.

Steve Grogan threw a 64 yard touchdown to Stanley Morgan for all the points the Patriots would need to win this game. Grogan later connected with Darryl Stingley on a 16-yard touchdown to give the Pats a 14-0 halftime lead; Tim Fox and Bob Howard both came up with interceptions for the New England defense.

November 27, 1983:
New York Jets 26, New England Patriots 3 at Shea Stadium

Richard Todd threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, both to Wesley Walker, bringing both clubs record's to 6-7.

November 27, 1988:
Indianapolis Colts 24, New England Patriots 21 at the Hoosier Dome

Dean Biasucci's 4th quarter field goal gave Indy the win, snapping a four-game New England winning streak and putting both teams in a 2nd-place tie with 7-6 records.

Sammy Martin returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to give the Patriots an early 7-0 lead. Indy tied it on an Eric Dickerson touchdown run, and then Bob Perryman put the Pats back on top with a one-yard plunge. Dickerson's second touchdown made it 14-14 at halftime, and then Mosi Tatupu's TD put the Pats up by seven entering the 4th quarter before the Colts rallied for the win. Russ Francis led the Pats with 74 yards receiving, most of it coming on a 51-yard pass from Doug Flutie.

November 27, 1994:
New England Patriots 12, Indianapolis Colts 10 at the RCA Dome

The Pats offense did not play particularly well in the red zone, but escaped with a win as Matt Bahr kicked four field goals, twice giving the Pats a 4th quarter lead, as the Patriots kept their playoff hopes alive.

The Pats defense did their job, shutting down Marshall Faulk by holding him to 48 yards rushing. Ben Coates had 12 receptions for 119 yards, and Drew Bledsoe threw for 271 yards.

November 27, 2005:
Kansas City Chiefs 26, New England Patriots 16 at Arrowhead Stadium

With David Givens, Kevin Faulk, Matt Light, and Corey Dillon all sidelined the Pats struggled, and three tipped passes led to four interceptions thrown by Tom Brady as the Patriots fell to 6-5.

The Pats were down 26-3 in the second half before Patrick Pass scored on a one-yard run. Following a fumble recovery by Ty Warren Brady hit Christian Fauria for a TD, but the Pats had dug themselves in to deep of a hole by then. Tim Dwight had five receptions for 76 yards, and Troy Brown became only the second player to catch 500 passes with the Patriots with a 25-yard reception.

November 27, 2011:
New England Patriots 38, Philadelphia Eagles 20 at Lincoln Financial Field

After a slow start the Pats cruised to an easy win over Philadelphia in a rematch of the Super Bowl 39 contestants.

After a pair of long completions by Vince Young gave Philadelphia a 10-0 lead, the Patriots scored on five of their next give possessions. BenJarvus Green-Ellis scored to close the lead to three, and then Young was sacked by Rob Ninkovich to force a three-and-out. Brady hit Deion Branch a couple plays later for a 63-yard gain, and then BJGE ran it in again to give the Pats the lead.

Antwaun Molden intercepted a pass by Young but the Pats could not take advantage of the turnover; the defense forced another three-and-out and on the next possession went to the no-huddle offense. Brady hit a wide open Wes Welker for a 41-yard touchdown, and the Pats led by 11.

The teams exchanged field goals to make it 24-13, and on the first possession of the second half Brady hit Welker for another touchdown, making it 31-13. Early in the 4th quarter Rob Gronkowski scored on a 24-yard pass from Brady to make it 38-13 before the Eagles scored in garbage time for the final score of the game.

Brady finished with 361 yards and three touchdowns, Branch had six catches for 125 yards, and Welker had eight catches for 115 yards. Though they were never threatened after the opening drive of the second half, many Pats fans fumed about the pass defense, because Young finished the game with 400 yards passing.
