Week 3 Pats at Bills television coverage

This week’s game between the Patriots and Bills will get very little coverage outside of New England and northern New York, which should not be a surprise to anyone. Even though this is a division battle of undefeated teams Buffalo is getting little to no respect from the mainstream media, and they are one of the most unfamiliar teams in the league to casual football fans.

Historically these matchups have had very little coverage over the last few years and with the Patriots having won fifteen straight since the infamous “They Hate Their Coach” game, and twenty of the last twenty one games between the two teams this may not appear to draw much national interest in the eyes of television executives - though I personally think it's going to be a very competitive, high scoring game. But even so I was slightly surprised to find that this game will be shown in just twenty out of 221 television markets within the United States, and in only six television markets that are not primary or secondary markets of either the Pats or the Bills. TV markets that could make a choice in most cases went with Houston at New Orleans, which is certainly makes sense as that appears that it should be a compelling game, but some areas choosing Denver at Tennessee or Miami at Cleveland instead seems to be a real head-scratcher in my opinion.

As for the Pats-Bills, they get the #4 CBS broadcast team of Marv Albert and Rich Gannon. Fox has the doubleheader this weekend. New England and most of the country will get Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa broadcasting the Giants at Eagles in the early game, while the late game available to most homes will be the Packers at Bears, called by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman.
